Prince
Edward Island
PEI (Prince Edward Island),
Canada is known for its tourism, PEI golf
courses, cottages and beautiful Island beaches.
Visit PEI and you will definitely want to
come back. Prince Edward Island is located
in the Gulf of St. Lawrence west and is north
of the Nova Scotia. PEI is now connected to
the mainland (New Brunswick) via the Confederation
Bridge. You can still use the PEI Ferry during
the summer months from NS to the east end
of the island. PEI's capital is Charlottetown
which is great place to visit with lots of
activities such as theatre, lobster suppers
and shopping. Once you leave Charlottetown,
you go in any direction and hit the water
and visit the sand dunes and beaches. Take
the time to also see the smaller rural town
and villages that dot the roads spreading
out from the capital
The smaller rural communities as well as the
towns and villages throughout the province
proudly retain a slower-paced, old-world flavour,
something that factors heavily into Prince
Edward Island's popularity as a destination
for relaxation. The economy of most rural
communities on the island is based on farming
and fishing.
The coastline consists of
a combination of long beaches, sand dunes
and beautiful red sandstone cliffs. The beaches,
dunes and sandstone cliffs are what PEI is
known for. The geological properties of a
white silica sand found at Basin Head beach
are unique in the province; the sand grains
cause a scrubbing noise as they rub against
each other when walked on, aptly named the
singing sands. No matter where you go or why
you vacation on PEI, you will find something
that you will enjoy whether it be golfing
on one of PEI's golf courses, lying on one
of our many beaches such as Cavendish, eating
at one of our famous restaurants or charter
deep sea fishing.
