Basin
Head is located off route 16, east of
the town of Souris on the way to the
most Eastern tip of PEI. It is a popular
destination for locals and tourists
alike. Basin Head is a day use park
featuring a supervised white sand beach,
play area, food on site, washroom and
shower facilities. The park is also
home to the Basin Head Fisheries Museum
which is dedicated to maintaining the
history of fisheries in that area. Please

Basin
Head has a rich ecosystem consisting
of many of species of plants, fish,
mammals and birds. The Basin Head Lagoon
Ecosystem Conservation Committee (BHLECC)
was established in 1999 and was selected
as an Area of Interest (AOI) under the
Marine Protected Areas (MPA) program
under Canada's Oceans Act. The selection
was a result of collaborative efforts
between the BHLECC, Fisheries and Oceans
Canada, and the province of PEI.
Having
grown up in the area, the beach is one
of my most favorite spots on earth having
spent most of my childhood summers there.
Basin Head beach itself extends NE for
many kilometers lending itself to long
walks and beach combing. The water is
warm during the summer months and the
sand is fine. Called the “singing
sands” since the sand squeaks
when you walk on it.
Since
Basin Head is a day use area there are
a number of accommodations to choose
from such as cottages, motels, beach
houses and chalets. There is a provincial
camping site close by called Red Point
Provincial Park with full service facilities
and a nice beach of its own. If you
want more information about accommodations
in the area, please check out the following
links below. If you wish to add a link,
please email us at info@basinhead.com.
